Congressman Bob Filner announced that the American Optometric Association (AOA) will match low-income families with local optometrists who provide free comprehensive eye exams.
"This program is a great example of people in our community sharing their talents with others," said Congressman Filner. "I encourage all interested participants to take advantage of this opportunity."
Qualified applicants will be assigned to a volunteer doctor of optometry from their community. The doctor will perform a comprehensive eye exam at no charge. The exams will be given during "Save Your Vision Week," March 7-13, 1999.
Interested participants may request an application form by writing: Vision USA, 243 N. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63141. Completed forms must be postmarked by January 22, 1999.
Information can also be obtained by calling toll-free 1-8000-766-4466. Phone registration is available January 4-29, 1999. Phone lines will be open Monday-Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. CST.
