The medical students at UCSD School
of Medicine hosted approximately 125 high school and middle school
students at the annual Doc-4-A-Day, held Saturday, Dec. 1.
Sponsored by the Chicano/Latino
Medical Students Association, Doc-4-A-Day provides a forum for
students to explore careers in medicine by participating in lectures
and workshops, such as an interactive physical exam demonstration
and an anatomy session.
The students also learned to take blood pressure, use a stethoscope to listen for the heart and lungs, and check reflexes.
The visiting students were from underrepresented backgrounds, and the intent of the day's activities was to increase their interest in medical careers and ultimately increase diversity at UCSD School of Medicine.
