Santa Barbara, Ca. Hispanic advertising agency Conill Advertising, Inc., based in New York, won the Ad of the Year at the 1998 Se Habla Español Awards in Communications prestigious black-tie gala, which honored the best in Hispanic television and overall campaigns. The Awards in Communications, the "CLIOS" of the Hispanic market, acknowledge advertising campaigns for the most creative Spanish and English language advertising targeted to the Hispanic consumer.
The nation's top Hispanic advertising agencies submitted entries in 45 categories. The awards highlight the dynamic growth of the Hispanic consumer segment, as more than $7.1 billion will be spent by leading Hispanic market advertisers this year. Hispanic market pioneers also are honored through lifetime membership in the Se Habla Español Hall of Fame.
Conill Advertising, Inc.'s "Abduction" for Bell Atlantic Spanish Yellow Pages won the Se Habla Español Ad of the Year, as well as the television ad of the year. Dieste & Partners Publicidad also won the campaign ad of the year for "Striptease/Religion/acting/Flying" for Major League Soccer. In the radio category, Casanova Pendrill Publicidad's "Believe It" for SBC Communications, Inc. won the radio ad of the year.
Dieste & Partners Publicidad's "Family" for Domecq/Don Pedro Brandy, and Vidal, Reynardus & Moya Advertising's "Por Todo lo Alto" for Heineken USA tied for best outdoor ad of the year.

Teresa Zubizarreta, president of Miami-based Zubi Advertising, and Jose Cancela, vice-president with Radio Unica, were inducted into the Se Habla Español Hall of Fame for their pioneering contributions to Hispanic marketing.
