A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for robbing and assaulting three Yellow Cab taxi drivers since December 18.
The descriptions of the attackers in each of three robberies are similar: Black male, early 20's, approximately 5'8", medium build, 145 pounds, earring in left ear, clean cut appearance, and well dressed. Two of the assaults occurred in the City of San Diego, and the other in National City.
During the holidays, a rise in criminal activity often occurs, and taxicab drivers are particularly vulnerable to assault. MTDB Taxi Administrator, Barbara Lupro, urged all taxi drivers in the region to be extra cautious, and to utilize their personal safety training.
The Reward Fund Program participants include Yellow Cab of San Diego and the entire group of the Transportation Network companies comprised of the Airport Yellow Cab, La Jolla Cab, Yellow Cab of Oceanside, Crown City of Coronado, and Premier Ride Chauffeured Sedans and Limousines; and the Taxicab Paratransit Association of California. The object or the Reward Fund is to assist in the effort to deter assaults against their drivers. The Fund may pay up to a maximum of $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for assault resulting in bodily injury to a taxicab driver.
Participating taxicabs display decals in a prominent location on the windows bearing the Taxicab Paratransit Association of California's logo and information relating to the program. Law enforcement personnel, public officers, persons whose misconduct prompts the reward and the assaulted individual are not eligible for the reward.
Persons offering information should contact the San Diego Police Department, Central Division, (619) 525-8400.
