Interested in serving as a member of one of San Diego's Community Planning Groups? Now may be the time to start your own planning.
Many of the more than 40 groups have elections in March. And, many have requirements that to be eligible to run for the board, candidates must attend a minimum number of meetings (sometimes two or more) before declaring their candidacy.
So, now may be the time to check on the board meeting schedule.
The Community Planning Groups review many of the development projects in the community before they reach a city Hearing Officer, the Planning Commission or City Council. They are officially recognized as advisory board by the City of San Diego.
"Being a member of a local Planning Group is a great way to help guide your neighborhood's future," said Betsy McCullough, Deputy Director of the city's Long Range Planning division. "It's also one of the best ways to find out what's going on and make a difference in your community."
Community Planning Groups are located through the city and are based on community planning area. These areas can be made up of several neighborhoods and for example, the San Carlos, Lake Murray, Del Cerro, Grantville and Allied Gardens neighborhoods are all included in the Navajo Community Plan.
Residents and business people, owners and tenants in a planning area can be board members.
For information on the Planning Group in your area, see the city's web site for information, or call (619) 236-6479.
