New Years' Thoughts From Our Readers

We asked our readers for their Year-End thoughts on the out going 1990's and/or on the New Year 2000. These are their thoughts.

"The year 2000 calls to mind many hopeful thoughts-new beginnings, new opportunities, new horizons. The turning of the century gives us new motivation to achieve the goals we've set for ourselves. If we strive to do our best and be our best, in the new millennium, we will surely live up to the promise of this historic passage."

Diane Lucero
Port of San Diego

"Oh wise one above! Oh great and hidden mystery! Oh mighty breath! Oh Lord of the close vicinity! Oh giver of life! Oh great and Holy Spirit! Come and fill the hearts of thy faithful and kindle in us the fire of thy love. Send forth thy spirit and we shall be created. And thou shall renew the face of Mother Earth."

Rick Saiz (El Chicano)

" The 1990's has been but an appetizer for Mexican Americans of what is to come in the next decade."

Raul Lowery Contreras

"My wish is that all our people who are eligible to vote will go out and express their opinions and show their strength at the voting booth. We need more Chicanos in Federal, State, and County government."

Carlos Vasquez
Chief Investigator
Public Defenders Office

"Our goal in the next millennium to continue to provide services to meet the needs of the community. To sponsor naturalization programs, provide Thanksgiving baskets to the needy, clothes for the homeless, patriotic programs in the schools, and a Christmas program for the mentally challenged. We look forward to bettering our services to the community and helping find the cure for cancer."

Olivia Jean Solomon
Don Diego Post Ladies Auxiliary

"Let the new Millenium begin by making it OUR TIME! If time is a creation of mans imagination… Then time is as individual as ones priorities. If we are ever to truly organize our time, then one must create his/her own personal philosophy. It is not good enough to follow someone else's values. It is imperative that we evaluate our life and arrive at the center of our being. In the new millenium, the Hispanic community should look to "itself" for answers it requires and in the process provides its own "leadership" to find answers to its problems. Let the new millenium begin by making it OUR TIME."

Ernie Reyes
President National Association of
Hispanic Real Estate Professionals

"In the New Year 2000, LULAC will work to generate more funds for the provision of scholarships for our Hispanic youngsters. We look for an increase in our outreach to the needy of the Southbay area. Our food program for the poor and needy is at a point where we need to go out and do more. LULAC and its members will do more will YOU?
