The nine San Diego County Wal-Mart stores are helping local high school seniors to realize a college education by making applications available for a $1,000 Sam Walton Community Scholarship.
Each of the nine stores will award the scholarship to a deserving senior student in their community, based on academic performance and involvement in school and community activities.
"We are committed to utilizing our resources to better our communities," said Russ Frever, district manager for three of the nine San Diego County Wal-Mart stores. "By investing in our local youth by providing opportunities in higher education, we are helping to shape the future."
The Sam Walton Community Scholarship applications are now available in the career/counseling centers of San Diego County high schools in the communities where a Wal-Mart store is located. The applications are due back to the career/counseling centers by Monday, January 24, 2000.
