High School Seniors Can Earn $1,000 Scholarships and the Chance to Win a New 2000 Ford Vehicle

San Diego County Salute to Education kicks off it's third year of distributing scholarships to San Diego County high school students by increasing the number of $1,000.00 scholarships to 300. In addition, for the second year, one of the scholarship recipients will also win a new 2000 Ford car or truck at the scholarship announcement ceremony.

The Salute to Education program, made possible by the 14 San Diego County Ford Dealers and Ford Motor Company, encourages students to continue their educations at a technical/vocational school, junior college or university. "The Ford Dealers of San Diego are thrilled to continue their sponsorship of this program," says John McCallan, Owner of Pearson Ford and Chairman of this year's San Diego County Salute to Education program. "It's a shining example of how private business can positively support and impact our youth here in San Diego County."

Academic achievement is considered, but is not the sole factor in determining scholarship recipients. Applicants are also evaluated on community service, autobiography, goals, category recognition, faculty recommendation and judge's recommendation.

Scholarship will be awarded in arts, athletics, foreign language, general, language arts, mathematics, performing arts, science, social science and vocational/technical at the Announcement Ceremony at Copley Symphony Hall in April where the drawing for a 2000 Ford Focus or 2000 Ford Ranger will be held.

Salute to Education is open to any high school senior who attends an accredited public or private school, is eligible to graduate in Spring 2000, and has not received a full four year scholarship to attend a college or university.

Scholarship applications are available from high school counselors, all San Diego County Ford dealers and on the website at www.salutetoeducation.com. The application deadline is February 18, 2000.
