San Ysidro Board of Trustees pulled a political slight of hand when they appointed Grace A. Kojima as the Superintendent of the San Ysidro Elementary School District after Superintendent Lopez resigned. Kojima was appointed during the summer recess when the majority of the teachers are gone and the parents are not aware of what is going on. The Board of Trustees appointed Kojima in closed session, with no prior notification in the Board Agenda, with no parent input nor teacher/administrators input, with no community input or interview of the participants, and without a search to attract candidates. First knowledge of her appointment came at the last Board meeting when her name appeared on the Agen-da as the new Superintendent!
The appoint is illegal. Government Code Section 532260-53264. Section 53262 (a) states all contracts of employment with a superintendent, etc. shall be ratified in an open session of the governing body which shall be reflected in the governing body's minutes. (b) Copies of any contract s shall be available to the public upon request. If this isn't enough, we are not even talking about the District policy or process for hiring a Superintendent!
PREGUNTA: What about this State Education Board? County Board of Education? San Ysidro Trustees?
Patty Davis who is in a runoff for the Chula Vista City Council seat #1, was a member of the Chula Vista Economic Development Commission (EDC), the Planning Commission. She supports the police and fireman and is in support of raising their pay. She is a small business, Realtor and property manager. She received an AA degree, from the Indian Valley College, in Real Estate in 1976. And, is heavily involved with the Realtors. Her campaign may be reached at 475-9100.
Greg Sandoval, (44) is seeking re-election to the Sweetwater Union High School Board of Trustees seat 3. He is the Dean of Student Services at Southwestern College. Sandoval has served four years as Trustee.
Senator Barbara Boxer (D) recommended Gregory Vega for the post of U.S. Attorney Southern District of California. He is currently the Assistant U.S. Attorney in the San Diego office where he has served for 11 years. Unfortunately, he served under the former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California, Alan Bersin at a time when relations between that office and the 650,000 Mexican Americans and other Latinos of the San Diego County were strained due to the uneven handling of the office. Local Chicanos are cool to the idea of his appointment. Attorney Vega may be known within the small circle of lawyers that have to deal with the U.S. Attorney's office in San Diego. To the at large Mexican American-Latino community, however, he is a "no show."
Supervisor Ron Roberts lost his chief of staff Steve Danon who will go to work with Tom Shepard, campaign consultant. Danon has been involved with the Susan Golding and Brian Bilbray campaign. Marc Kuritz will be Roberts acting Chief of Staff in his absences.
Once again Maryanne Pintor, Mayor Susan Golding's press spokes-woman, will be replaced by Ric Gren-ell, as the new Press Secretary. Pintor has decided to go back to college and work towards a Masters Degree. None to soon, San Diego ChiPols say. What with the mayors flagging public image.
Washington spin-doctors are busy floating Bill Rich-ardson (Hispanic) as a likely nominee for Vice-President with Al Gore. Hummmmm wonder what Señor Alan Bursin, currently in a holding pattern with the San Diego Unified School District, thinks about this?.. In politics "la familia" counts more than Race. Am afraid Mrs Gore might have different ideas. I am sure Mrs Gore will soon be talking to her relative Mrs Bursin. On the other hand, the Democrats might just be "chumming" to see how many Mexican-Latino voters they can get to bite.
