Fourteen Southwestern College Apaches were awarded football scholarships to various four-year colleges and universities in the United States.
"This is the largest group of football athletes I've seen receive scholarships since I've been coaching," said Southwestern College Apaches head coach Mike Pompa.
As the upcoming football season approaches, watch for the faces of these Southwestern College athletes as they head to the 50-yard line, kick a field goal, or score the winning touchdown. Quarterback Andy Garcia will be attending Fort Hays State University in Kansas as is safety Richard Hardin. Wide receiver J.J. Rosier was awarded a scholarship to Northern Arizona University and linebacker Johnny Warden was awarded a scholarship to attend Bethany College in Kansas. Mario Arredondo will be attending Western State College in Colorado, Jason Mur-guia will play for Western New Mexico University, and the University of Indiana awarded Doug Baumgarden a scholarship. Arredondo, Murguia, and Baumgarden played tackle for the Southwestern College Apaches. Kicker Cesar Perez will join punter Joe Densmore at New Mexico Highlands University.
