Pacific Bell Makes Commitment to Sponsor SDSU Womens Basketball Tournament Pacific Bell has extended its commitment to womens athletics and San Diego State University by signing on as title sponsor of the second annual SDSU womens basketball tournament, Director of Athletic Rick Bay announced Monday. The four-team tournament, which features Missouri, Indiana State, Portland State and host San Diego State, will be titled the 1999 Pacific Bell Classic and is slated to take place Nov. 26 and 27 at Cox Arena at Aztec Bowl on the SDSU Campus.
"We are very excited that Pacific Bell has taken this opportunity to step up and support womens athletics at San Diego State," said Bay. "Corporate support of our athletic programs is vital to our student-athletes and the 1999 Pacific Bell Classic will help to provide athletic opportunities that might not otherwise exist."
Through the partnership with SDSU, Pacific Bell will receive title sponsorship and exclusive naming rights, which includes extensive exposure prior to and during the tournament, as well as sign-age in Cox Arena for the duration of the tournament and various advertising and logo placement opportunities.
"Like San Diego State University, Pacific Bell has been part of the San Diego community for more than 100 years. During that time we have partnered with the university on educational programs as well as those in athletics," said Marsha Lindsey, Pacific Bells area vice president.
"Its vital that womens athletics receive corporate support for their major events and we really appreciate the opportunity to be the main sponsor of this premier basketball tournament as part of Pacific Bells continuing commitment to the university and the community."
Lindsey also noted that the teams competing in the Thanksgiving tournament are from states where telecommunications services are provided or will be by SBC, Pacific Bells parent company.
The San Diego State womens basketball team kicks off its 1999-2000 season on Friday, Nov. 5 with a preseason exhibition at Cox Arena against The Legends at 7 p.m.. The Aztecs open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 19 in Pocatello, Idaho, at the American Dream Classic versus Idaho State.
