**The Oceanside Public Library is hosting a display of beautifully designed quilts and fabric art by the talented El Camino Quilters Guild during the month of August. Exhibit will include highly crafted appliquéd, and pieced work that use traditional as well as contemporary art design. For more information call (760) 435-9275.
**The City of San Diego Public Library will present an exhibition of artifacts and memorabilia from the collection of the Baseball Reliquary from August 3 to 29 at the Central Library in downtown San Diego.

**The La Jolla Stage Company is set to present “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!”, a joyous celebration of our childhood times. This is a musical with a fresh approach to this all-time 1966 classic. Come have fun with Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the whole Peanuts gang as they romp their way through this perennial family favorite. Opening July 24 and continues through September 7th.
**The San Diego summer heats up when Brazilian Promotions and PartySanDiego.com team up to produce “Brazil by the Bay” night at the Cannibal Bar located inside the beautiful Catamaran Resort 3999 Mission Blvd. to build a cultural bridge through music, fashion and dance. Don’t miss the largest Brazilian events in San Diego, August 23 Brazilian Beach Fashion Show, and September 23 Ms. Brazil Latina Pageant.
**“Music in the Park” a free summer concert series will offer a variety of musical sounds in five Chula Vista parks that continue until Sept. 13. Featured bands will play music ranging from Cajun, salsa, rhythm & blues, and smooth jazz to Big Band, surfing and oldies from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. **Throughout August and into September, the Summer Pops continues to entertain with a variety of musical repertoires including the stirring and crowd-pleasing 1812 Tchaikovsky Spectacular complete with cannons and brilliant fireworks and special guests. All Summer Pops (at the Navy Pier) concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and conclude at approximately 9:30 p.m. with brilliant fireworks over San Diego Bay.

**A folk music festival will be held Sunday, August 24 at the Water Conservation Garden at 12122 Cuya-maca College Drive West in El Cajon. Performances will be held in the Garden’s Amphitheater from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3.50 for children under 12. Parking is FREE.
**On August 28th at 7:30 p.m. the Beth Am Social Hall will turn into a fabulous Latin night club of jot jazz and cool dancing. Blending the backgrounds and talents of the 12 members, the band offers Salsa, Merengue, Cambia, and Bacchante and Boleros.

**Sunday, August 31, the World-Beat presents the Sixth Annual Calle Diez Latin Music Festival. Seven bands from all over the world will perform and this year’s festival tributes salsa and jazz greats, Mongo Santamaria and Celia Cruz. Taking place at the ReinCarnation Building at 10th & J Street East Village in downtown San Diego. Gates open at 1 PM and the show is scheduled to begin at 2 PM. Tickets are $10 and children under 12 are free. Bands scheduled to appear include: Orquesta Melaza Puerto Rico; Marquinhos Paulista Samba Batucada Brazil; Principes de Merengue, - Dominican; Quetzal Guerrero Cascabe - Arizonal; B Side Players San Diego; Binational Mambo Orquesta; Somos Criollo Peru.

**The sea is full of natural sounds-cracking icebergs, rumbling earthquakes whistling dolphins and more. Sounds of the Sea, a 2,000 square foot exhibition will be on display at the Birch Aquarium located at 2300 Expedition Way in La Jolla, July 18 Jan 5, 2004. Through hands-on stations guests will learn all about underwater sounds, from the effect human sounds have on the ocean world to how marine animals use sounds to search for mates, find food, and navigate their way through the depths of the sea.
**The Puppetry Center of San Diego is presenting “Animal Folktales of the Americas” for all ages, bilingual (English & Spanish). Location: Clairemont town Square at 3998-A Clairemont Mesa Blvd., (next to Circuit City) San Diego. Saturday, August 23 at 2:30 p.m. For tickets call 1-800-954-6696.
**You don’t want to miss Albertsons Annual Hatch Chili Extravaganza set for Saturday, August 23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 720 3rd Ave., and J Street in Chula Vista. Chili aficionados can purchase roasted sacks of 100% extra hot Hatch chili. Grown in Masilla Valley and Las Cruces, New Mexico is available in many different varieties and degrees of heat content. Culinary masters use them to make salsa, stuffing for tamales, menudo and a number of great tasting dishes. Hatch chilies come in to season starting the last two weeks of July and run through the first two weeks of September. So come pick up your supply of hot chilies, and enjoy a root beer float, too!
**Taste of National City will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 28 in National City’s historic Heritage Square in the 900 block of “A Avenue. The event will feature fifteen restaurants ready to serve their specialties to visitors, as well as entertainment.
