Registration Information for Students in City Schools

Registration in San Diego City Schools is required for all new students and for continuing students who have moved into a new school attendance area during the summer.

Registration for new elementary students or for those attending a different district K-5 for K-6 school from last year will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at the new school to be attended.

Registration will begin Aug. 30 for middle school, junior high and high school students new to the district or who will be attending a district secondary school different from the one attendee last year. Parents of secondary-school students are urged to call the new school beginning Aug. 23 for specific information on its registration time and date. Middle school and junior high students should be accompanied by a parent at registration. New middle school in the same attendance area are already registered and do not need to pre-enroll.

Charter schools may have different registration dates and times, and parents are asked to contact those schools directly.

The following registration requirements apply for all new students or those moved to new school attendance areas:

• Provide proof of residence by bringing to the school copies of two of the following: a utility bill; rental agreement; mortgage document; or military housing orders.

• Provide evidence of immunization against the following diseases: measles, mumps and rubella (MMR); diphtheria; whooping cough; and tetanus; or provide a permanent medical exemption or personal beliefs exemption.

The following additional registration requirements apply for all kindergartners and first grade students new to the district or an attendance area:

• Provide a copy of a birth certificate, baptismal certificate or passport. To attend kindergarten for the 1999-2000 school year, a child must be five years old on or before Dec. 2, 1999.

• Bring evidence of vaccination against hepatitis B. Students will not be allowed to attend class without proof of immunization against all required diseases under the "No Shots-No School" policy.

The following additional health requirements apply to all district seventh grade students whether new or continuing in the district:

• Evidence of hepatitis B vaccination and a second MMR (measles, mumps and rubella vaccination. Seventh graders will not be allowed to attend class without these proofs under the "No Shots - No School" policy. Parents are urged to contact the district's comprehensive health office at (858)627-7580 with any questions. New students should bring evidence at registration; continuing students on the first day of school.

The following additional health requirements applies for all district first graders whether new or continuing:

• Evidence of a recent physical examination. New students should bring evidence at time of registration. Continuing students should bring it on the first day of school.
