Alejandro Hernandez reached the final of the $25,000 Challenger Ciudad de Tijuana played on the hardcourts of Club Britania last Sunday.
The Tijuana native, who is Mexico's number one tennis player, was defeated in the final 7-5, 6-1 by Australian Michael Hill.
By reaching the final, Hernandez improved his ATP Tour ranking to 167 in the world.
Hernandez began the week with a first round 6-2, 6-3 win over Ignacio Martinez of Tijuana, who is attempting a comeback after suffering a back injury. Martinez was a former tennis standout at the University of San Diego.
Scott Humphries of the United States nearly eliminated Hernandez in the quarterfinals as the crafty Mexican scrambled for a 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 win.
Hernandez earned $2,120 for reaching the final, while Hill earned $3600 for winning the tournament.
