Good News: Republican Pat Buchanan, feels alienated from his party's leadership. He may leave the Party.

Bad News; Pat says he may join the Reform Party!

 

Good news:The Census Bureau announced it needs 260,000 to do the Census.

Bad News: Instead of hiring U.S, citizens, it will hire non-citizens to do some of the census

 

Candidate George W. Bush told a group of Iowa Latinos that he opposed English-only Laws. He supports increased trade with Mexico. Bush told the Iowan's he would allow illegal immigrant children to attend public school. He ended his `platica' by stating he supported a "humane border enforcement policy"! (You are on record now Governor Bush).

 

Republican National Hispanic Association RNHA will be holding it's 1999 Hispanic Heritage Leadership Awards & Dinner Gala, Friday September 24, 1999 at the National Building Museum, Washington D.C. Grand Aguila Leadership Award Recipient Governor George W. Bush will be honoring the Eagle Award recipients: Senator Peter Domenici, NRCC chairman Tom Davis III, Congressman Lincoln Diaz Balart, Governor Luis Ferre, RNC Chairman, Jim Nicholson. Community Service Award will be presented to Misla Aldarondo and Connie Vasquez. Tickets $1,000 per table, individual tickets $100 for registered RNHA members and Chapters. Dwayne Crenshaw (D) candidate for the 79th Assembly District race is leading in fundraising in the 79th according to Secretary of State records. He has raised $32,000 dollars. Crenshaw is a school teacher and had experience working in Sacramento for Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante and Senator Jack O'Connel.

 

Kevin Konczal appointed Executive Director of the San Diego Republican Party, announced Roxana Foxx, Chairwoman of the Republican Party in San Diego. His focus to increase Hispanic and African-American registration with-in the Republican Party.

 

Toni Atkins is in the race for the 3rd council District race. Christian Kehoe will not be running for relection ( term limits). According to filing records she had raised over $44,925 dollars for her campaign effort. Atkins has served on Kehoe's staff since 1963 and has been endorsed by her.

 

Councilman Juan Vargas announced he is going to run for the 79th Assembly District seat. (See Editorial)

 

Political Facts:

In the United States it takes 270 electoral votes to elect a President.

 

Raza is clustered in 11 states.

These 11 states represent 217 electoral votes.

The Latino, Hispano, Mexican vote is capable of electing the next President by joining with those with similar interest in those states.

 

The Willie Velásquez Institute will hold a luncheon at the Casa Guadalajara, in Old Town from, 11;30am-2:00pm on August 27, 1999 a briefing will be given on "Latino Opinion on the Presidential Campaign in 2000" and a Panel Discussion on Latinos And U.S. -Cuba Relations.
