Hispanic Association of Communications Employees hold first annual San Diego Chapter Scholarship Awards Celebration

The Hispanic Association of Communications Employees of SBC (HACEMOS), parent corporation for Pacific Bell, are presenting $7,500 in Scholarships to the winners of its first annual San Diego Chapter Awards taking place Monday, August 16 at the Pacific bell building located at 6350 Sequence Dr.

"As a member of HACEMOS I couldn't be prouder of the work we do within the Hispanic community,: said John Chavez, president for HACEMOS. "Pacific Bell, and our parent company SBC, recognize that so much of our success tomorrow depends on the education and information that our children are provided today. The Scholarships we are awarding will help ensure the advancement and prosperity of the Hispanic community at large."

The recipients had to meet numerous criteria to be eligible for this year's scholarship. As well as filling out the standard application all candidates had to have minimum 2.0 grade point average and reside within the San Diego or Imperial Counties. They also had to fill out and return the application that was

located on the San Diego HACEMOS website at

HACEMOS is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that was established on November 9, 1988 and is open to active and retired employees of the SBC Communications, Inc. family of companies. The HACEMOS mission is to foster an environment where people support and encourage each other to succeed in the community, both professionally and personally, The San Diego HACEMOS Chapter was established shortly after the merger between SBC Communication Inc. and Pacific Telesis in April 1997
