El Vicepresidente
de la U. S. Commission on Civil Rights Recibe la Medalla Presidencial.
WASHINGTON, 10 de agosto — La United States Commission
on Civil
Rights se enorgullece de reconocer los logros de su Vicepresidente
Cruz Reynoso,
quien ayer mereció la Medalla Presidencial de la Libertad,
la cual recibio de manos del Presidente Bill Clinton, por la labor
de toda una vida en pro de los pobres y marginados. “Cruz
Reynoso ha servido a este país con la más alta distinción”,
declaró la Presidenta de la Comisión, Mary Frances
Berry.
”Y en mi calidad de amiga y colega, me complace mucho que
él haya sido reconocido
por sus numerosos logros y por su carácter extraordinario”.
La Medalla de la Libertad es la más alta distinción
civil de la nación. Y es
la segunda distinción recibida en las dos últimas
semanas por el Vicepresidente
Reynoso, quien fue notificado la semana pasada que sería
honrado con el Premio de
la Herencia Hispana durante una ceremonia que se celebrará
en el Kennedy Center en
septiembre.
De 1982 a 1987, Reynoso fue Juez Suplente del California Supreme
Court en San
Francisco, y de 1976 a 1982 había sido Juez Suplente en
el Third District Court of
Appeal, de Sacramento.El juez Reynoso ha sido miembro del Consejo
de Administración del Mexican American Legal Defense and
Educational Fund (MALDEF), y ahora integra los consejos de administración
del Latino Issues Forum, del Natural Resources Defense Council
y de Children Now.

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 10 — Adopting the recommendation
of consumer advocates and former San Diego Mayor Maureen O'Connor,
the California State Senate this morning passed legislation to
rollback electric utility rates to pre-deregulation levels. AB
2290, authored by Sen. DeDe Alpert (D-San Diego) passed the Senate
by a 28-0 vote and is to be immediately transmitted to the state
Assembly.
