Latino-owned Ortiz Film Works has
been named a National Winner in The Communicator Awards
1998 competition. The contest was designed to select the best
local and regional television commercials and video presentations
created by advertising agencies, production studios and television
stations. The Communicator Awards 1998 video competition
received 3,209 entries from 47 states and eight other countries.
The Communicator's Award of Excellence was awarded for "Latino Outreach Program," a 17-minute video presentation created for the National Alzheimer's Association - San Diego Chapter. This prestigious award was garnered in the category of Non-Broadcast Foreign Language Production.
"We were looking for a culturally sensitive video production with a story line that accurately depicted the struggles a Latino family faces when dealing with Alzheimer's disease," said Roberto Velasquez, Manager of the San Diego Chapter's Latino Outreach Program/Volunteer Respite Network. "We couldn't be more happy with the job that Ortiz Film Works did. This production has received tremendously positive comments by the Latino community, and has helped increase awareness of the Alzheimer's Association and of this devastating disease."
A 30-second public service announcement on the same subject is currently being featured on San Diego's Channel 19 Univision and other television stations nationally. The promotional video and PSAs were produced by Mario Ortiz and the creative team at Ortiz Film Works. The video productions were made possible through funding from San Diego Gas & Electric. "The entire team was excited with the opportunity to create a production where we could give back to the Hispanic community - it was very rewarding," said Ortiz Film Works president, Mario Or-tiz.
