Bazaar Del Mundo Celebrates Cinco de Mayo With Non-Stop Free Entertainment

Bazaar del Mundo in Old Town will burst with food, music and dance this Cinco de Mayo, when it hosts continuous free entertainment, 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 5.

Strolling mariachis and holiday food specials will spice things up in restaurants Casa de Bandini, Casa Guadalajara, Casa de Pico, Lino's and Rancho el Nopal. The Bazaar's garden courtyard will be the site of entertainment including marimbas, traditional Mexican folkloric dancers and more.

The schedule of courtyard entertainment is as follows:

10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Pueblo Viejo Marimba (marimba band)
12:30 - 1 p.m. - Ballet Folklorico Adelante (folkloric dance)
1:30 - 2 p.m. - Ballet Folklorico Adelante
2:30-3 p.m. - Ballet Folklorico Adelante
3 - 5:30 p.m. - Tinku (music from the Andes)
5:30 - 6 p.m. - Hispanic Mexican Ballet (folkloric dance)
6:30 - 7 p.m. - Hispanic Mexican Ballet
7:30 - 8 p.m. - Hispanic Mexican Ballet

The Bazaar del Mundo is located in the heart of Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, at 2754 Calhoun St., San Diego, Ca.

Cuyamaca College Hosts Cinco de Mayo Festivities

Rancho San Diego — "Embracing Diversity" is the theme at Cuyamaca College's celebration of Cinco de Mayo on Monday, May 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"Our college embraces diversity and this celebration gives us all the opportunity to learn more about Mexican culture through speakers, dancers, musicians and artists," said Dr. Sherill Amador, president of Cuyamaca College. "We're looking forward to sharing in the celebration with our students, students from local school districts and the community. All are welcome."

The free event is co-hosted by MECHA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan). The public is invited to campus to enjoy Mexican culture with an array of activities including entertainment by Mariachi Chavez of Lemon Grove, four band members dressed in the traditional Charro suits and play Mariachi instruments: the guitarra (a form of acoustical guitar, vihuela (banjo), violen (violin) and the trumpete.

Also performing will be Los Gordos, a group of five musicians who play all types of Latin music. Groups performing folk dances will be Tonantzi Dance Group, established in 1986 and comprised of members from many local schools and La Fiesta Danzantes of San Diego, a group dressed in colorful and elegant costumes which specializes in all genres of Mexican traditional dance and features champion roper, Tony Munoz.

In addition to the musical entertainment, there will be an art exhibit and Mexican Food Extravaganza.

Cinco in The Gaslamp

This May 5, the Gaslamp Quarter will be hosting the 2nd Annual Cinco in the Gaslamp on Cinco de Mayo, from 4 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Come out and salsa around the worlds largest sombrero. Get stuck on this event when you jump on the velcro wall. Ride the night away on rex the mechanical bull. The event will feature a complete Mexican Fiesta with Mariachis, Ballet Folklorico, Salsa music, jalapeño eating contests, cerveza specials, margaritas, taco carts, hot dogs wrapped in bacon, piñatas, carnival booths and more throughout the night. Telemundo Presenta Especial del Cinco de Mayo "Fiesta Broadway"

Los Angeles — La cadena Telemundo transmitirá el famoso festival de Los Angeles "Fiesta Broadway" como especial televisivo del Cinco de Mayo. El programa podrá ser gozado por la teleaudiencia de los Estados Unidos el miércoles 5 de Mayo de 1999, comenzando a las 7:00 p.m. anunció Nely Galán, Presidenta de Entretenimiento de Telemundo.

Un despliegue brillante de actos musicales y celebridades de la televisión pasará por el escenario para deleitar a 300,000 visitantes en la celebración más grande y más emocionante del Cinco de Mayo en este país. Una superficie de 36 manzanas del centro de la ciudad de Los Angeles rebozarán de vida durante el "Acto Preliminar de la Fiesta Broadway" a las 7:00 p.m. conducido por Carlos Calderón y Gissa. Luego a las 8:00 p.m., Guillermo Sauceda y Nadia Rowinski serán los anfitriones de "Fiesta Broadway", donde la música y cultura latinas llenarán el escenario en este especial televisivo de dos horas.

Los artistas participantes incluyen a la diva mariachi Nydia Rojas, a la reina del pop Fey, a la mexicana Ana Bárbara, al grupo tejano La Mafia y al grupo regional mexicano Los Tigres del Norte. 9th Annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta in San Clemente

Put Saturday May 1st on your "fun" calendar... Come on down to the City of San Clemente's Annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta. This will be the 9th year the Recreation Division has coordinated the event, and it's grown in leaps and bounds. Activities include a sizzling line up of live entertainment, food and game booths, a car show, an art competition & cultural exhibit.

The program is offered at Max Berg Plaza Park, 1100 Calle Puente, right off El Camino Real and El Portal. Program Activities begin at 11 am through 7 pm.
