April 23, 1999
Prior to the upcoming Mexican Holiday "Cinco De Mayo", San Juan Capistrano will present one of the best "son jarocho" bands in the USA, Saturday April 24.
Conjunto Hueyapan is a family ensemble led by Professor Fermin Herrera and featuring the golden voice of his daughter Ixya (Female Bird) Herrera. Ixya who has performed duos with Linda Ronstadt. Conjunto Hueyapan has performed at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to President Reagan's Inaugrual Ball and perfected their skills under the guidance of master musicians in Mexico City such as Lino Chavez, Mario Barradas, Nicolas Sosa, Rolando Hernandez and Wilebaldo Amador, and others. With dueling harps and impeccable work on the Jarana and Requinto, Conjunto Hueyapan has been pleased audiences, with their Vera Cruz Mexican music, around the world. Joining them for this performance will be San Juan's own Ballet Folklorico directed by our own "Woman of the Year" Maricella Moreno.
So come and celebrate Cinco de Mayo early before the holiday rather than after. Bring your dancing shoes for this one!
The World Music Series is held at 8:00pm in Marco Forster School Auditorium on the corner of Del Obispo and Camino Del Avion in the City of San Juan Capistrano.
