" El Cinco"

A Time to Celebrate Mexican Courage

The 1862 battles of Puebla-Zaragoza, México proved the grit, determination and bravery of the greatly out numbered Mexican forces when confronted by the French armies of Napoleon III who was determined to place Maximilian as the monarch of Mexico.

In OUR COUNTRY, as well as throughout Mexico, we celebrate the 5th of May, in honor of those who fought so gallantly to defend "La Madre Patria." In San Diego, we similarly honor all those Mexican-Americans who fought in defense of their country, the United States of America, often in circumstances as in Puebla in 1862.

La Prensa San Diego will publish a special edition on May 5th, 2000, commemorating the 5th of May throughout the City and County of San Diego. We invite all of you to join with us in the spirit of "CINCO DE MAYO."
