Celebrating a Summer with Amanda
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, comes My Summer With Amanda and Tainos, The Last Tribe by Puerto Rican film director and producer Benji Lopez on Saturday, September 13th at the Ultra Star Cinemas in Hazard Center Drive, Mission Valley.
My Summer With Amanda is about Gaby, a young aspiring filmmaker who falls in love with Amanda and whom is too shy and innocent to pursue his love for her. And although he gets the worst advises from close friends, he decides to ask for their help anyways making the Summer one full of funny, crazy and politically incorrect situations.
On the contrast, Tainos, The Last Tribe is about an archeologist whom discovers a tribe of Taino Indians alive in 2005. It’s similarities with ‘Survivors meets past and present’- the film shows a well array of characters entering unsuspected conflict for a great ordeal of suspense and action.
Benji Lopez who’s film Tainos, The Last Tribe was screened in 9 theaters in Puerto Rico, will be present at both screenings in San Diego: Saturday, September 13th, at 10am for Tainos, The Last Tribe and at 2pm for My Summer With Amanda. Christi Miro, main lead of Tainos will also be present at screenings.
10th Annual “El Festival Del Grito”
Univision Radio San Diego’s Recuerdo 102.9 KLQV-FM and La Nueva 106.5 KLNV-FM proudly announce the lineup for the 10th annual “El Festival del Grito.” The free, family-friendly concert, takes place on Sunday, September 14th at 11:00 am at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and features musical acts representative of La Nueva 106.5’s regional Mexican sound and Recuerdo 102.9’s Spanish-adult hits formats.
The hugely successful duranguense band Alacranes Musical will headline the show. The group, known for their energetic live performances, has released nearly a dozen records in just the past three years all of which have placed in the Regional Mexican Billboard charts. Their most recent release is Tu Inspiracion (2008).
Lupillo Rivera, the often outspoken and controversial norteño singer, is also scheduled to appear. Known for his trademark shaved head, Rivera has an immense and dedicated following. Tu y las Nubes, Que suerte la Mia, and Despreciado are some of the legendary singer’s best-known songs. His most recent album is this year’s Tiro de Gracia.
Los Mismos counts on the respected musicians that brought the classic Los Bukis music to life. When lead singer Marco Antonio Solis left Los Bukis in 1995, the group forged on with that timeless sound and began releasing a series of strong albums to rapturous reception from fans. Their latest release is 2006’s “Quiero Agradecer.”
Other bands scheduled to perform at the festival include Los Creadorez del Pasito Duranguense, Conjunto Atardecer, Adan Romero, Julio Chaidez and more. Doors open at 11:00 am. Free admission to the public.
