Sed de Saber’s LeapPad platform allows Hispanic parents mobile learning.
The Oceanside Unified School District celebrated 200 Hispanic parent graduates during multiple graduation ceremonies that will run from May 27, 2008 to June 5, 2008.
The District had thirteen participating school sites, all of which were elementary schools. Next year, the program will expand to three additional middle schools. Approximately one-fourth of students enroll in Oceanside schools knowing little to no English.
“The Oceanside Unified School District has been very pleased with the results of the Sed de Saber Program for parents of English Learners in the district. Parents have been more involved in school activities as their English skills have improved and feel more able to help their children with homework as a result of their second language acquisition. Many parents have expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to increase their English vocabulary through the program and appreciate the support that the self paced materials provide for them to learn at home,” said Sherry Freeman de Leyva, EL Coordinator of the Oceanside School District.
Sed de Saber offers a multi-sensory learning experience anytime, anywhere. The platform’s record-playback-and-compare feature provides the learner with the immediate feedback necessary to perfect word pronunciation. Personalized, live tutoring assistance via telephone also helps the learners and increases completion and success rates.
